Electric Two-Wheeler Sales September 2026: The Big Brands Take Over

Quick answer: India registered 2,07,314 electric two-wheelers in September 2026 (VAHAN retail data). That's up 89% year on year from about 1.10 lakh units and up 13% from August's 1,83,204. Electric now makes up 11.6% of all two-wheelers sold in India, up from 8.2% a year ago. TVS is No. 1, Bajaj No. 2, Ather No. 3.

The story of September is simple: the legacy brands with big dealer networks are winning. TVS, Bajaj, Ather and Hero together sold roughly three out of every four electric two-wheelers in the country.

What stood out

TVS stays on top, but Bajaj is only ~5,600 units behind

TVS sold more than 54,000 units on the back of the iQube and the newer Orbiter. Bajaj's Chetak grew even faster, up 139% year on year and 18% month on month. Together the two hold almost half the market. If Bajaj keeps this pace through the festive season, the No. 1 spot is up for grabs in October.

Hero Vida almost doubled in a month

Hero's electric sales jumped 98% over August to 24,321 units. Vida is now a clear No. 4 and is closing in on Ather.

Ather keeps growing steadily

Ather added 56% year on year and crossed 8 lakh cumulative sales in late September. The Rizta family scooter and the new Konarc S range keep it firmly at No. 3.

Ola is the only big brand going backwards

Ola sold 13,451 units, slightly down from a year ago, in a market that nearly doubled. Its share has fallen to 6.5%, from more than a quarter two years ago. The company is raising fresh capital and is betting on the S1 X refresh and the low-cost S1Z to win back buyers.

Smaller players are growing fast

River (up 193%), Bounce (up 243%) and BGauss (up 99%) are all growing faster than the market, though from a small base.

What it means if you're buying

More competition is good news for buyers. The ₹1–1.3 lakh segment now has strong options from TVS, Bajaj, Ather, Hero and Honda. With Navratri under way and Diwali on 8 November, expect sharper festive offers through October. If you're shortlisting, compare on-road price, real-world range and the service centre nearest to you, not just the brand name.
